In Shock

As the world tries to wrap its head around the recent terror attacks in Mumbai and make sense of it all, tragedy strikes home as it snatches one of our own.

My sister in law (cousin) hid under her bed in one of the suites in Taj Heritage as the attacks began. Hers was probably the first floor that blew up. The Taj GM's family that perished in the fire was in the room next to hers. Untraceable for nearly 53 hours since the attacks began, we finally learn of her horrific fate this morning. She was one of the first victims of this carnage.

We are numb and speechless with no words of comfort for our brother who now has ahead of him, a long, difficult road with two young children. The massive void created by this unexpected and untimely loss will forever loom over it, painfully reminding him of what could have been.

(Edited to add:) I spoke to my cousin last night and found out that she was actually hit on the head by one of the terrorists by a blunt object that instantaneously killed her. Part of her hotel suite was gutted and she was found in the adjacent wing that was merely singed.
It is a great loss not only to our family but to the entire journalistic community. Her kids now see their mom as one who died a heroic death. A hero in every sense of the word. And just like their mom, they are demonstrating tremendous grit and courage in this immensely difficult time.

I'm terribly sorry to read this Sukanya. I can understand how mind numbingly hard things must be now. You're all in our prayers.

Oh Suku, I am so sorry to read this. My condolences for your family. It is really tragic and one has no words to help the bereaved come to terms with it.
