The Little Boy Driver

I drove myself to school today. Mama did not come with me. D tells his teacher wickedly as he enters his class.

Oh really…now that’s a very brave boy, replies Ms. Diane, playing along with D.
Are you really that big to drive, D? she asks.

Naw...I was just tricking you Ms. Diane, answers D, grinning ear to ear.

Then with a serious look he tells her, Ms. Diane, you know I will drive soon though. When I am six, I will become a very big boy and then I can drive.

Right mama? Looking at me for confirmation.

Seeing his earnest look, I smile agreeably. I don’t have the heart to tell him that he has 11 more years to apply for a license.
