Snippets from our sojourn....
* A howled and screamed bloody murder the minute we ( I was traveling alone with her) boarded the flight pissing off many passengers including the woman who sat right next to us. She kept shaking her head and saying, Oh, my God! To hell with you woman!
* The wedding, well… was a blur. Tired, sleep deprived and jet-lagged, I just didn’t have the energy to enjoy and socialize. On the other hand A did, just like the Energizer bunny. I spent the entire time running after her. I tell ya, she was a handful. So much so that hot coffee fell on her at the reception dinner, her scream almost giving me a heart attack. Dad, mom, brother and I had to literally scamper out of the reception looking for Burnol. Poor thing! She is healed but has a scar on her leg that looks like an earthworm.
* Celebrated A’s second birthday. It was a small family affair and she loved the yummy chocolate cake. D and Hubby dear arrived in time to be with her on her special day.
* Ate, ate and ate.
* Shopped. Though, not as much as I would have liked to.
* Ate, ate and ate.
* Took the kids on a 6 hour train journey which was the most pleasant and enjoyable trip during our stay. The kids loved it.
* Enjoyed the family chats around the dining table and the evening gup-shup with drinks and munchies.
* Ate "Taamool Paan" as if it was going out of fashion which resulted in a chipped tooth and maybe loss of some filling. And yes, Babloo Supaari zindabad!
* Hot, muggy and humid. No respite-even the AC’s weren’t enough.
And thanks for the constant temperature variations, D fell sick at the last leg of the journey. But that didn’t deter him from having fun.
* Ate, ate and ate. As you can see, eating was our no. 1 priority. And it is difficult when you belong to a food loving family. But the kids-they lived on Luchees, Gulaab Jaams(Jamun), Kaju burfi, Cornflakes, Bourbon biscuits and candies.
* Hooked up with long lost cousins, extended family and met some old trusted friends.
* Delhi was hot on our way in but cool and pleasant on our way out. Not the Dilli I knew. Almost everything looks different. There’s construction and dust everywhere, apparently gearing up for the Commonwealth games in 2010. There were jams everywhere and ….insects. What’s with the insects? I don’t remember seeing insects like this before. But none of that stopped us from our daily jaunts to shopping malls and stores. Dilli Haat-still rocks.
* The flight back was uneventful. Phew! The kids slept 11 hours of the 14 hour non stop flight. And the time they were up, they kept themselves busy by playing with each other. There was a kid screaming and shouting -the helpless parents desperately trying to avoid dirty looks and sniggers from people around them. I knew exactly what they were going through – it is a hard situation and frankly you can’t do much except pray that the kid relaxes and quiets down soon. And it is harder when you have inconsiderate and intolerant people around you.
As the little infant bawled, I looked over to A, vividly remembering my own experience. She gave me a wicked smile and pointing to the crying child said, “Mama, baby crying!” Yes, you bet, baby is crying. Thank God its not you again!
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and it’s been two days now. Our schedules all screwed up. We sleep at 5 pm, with empty stomachs and wake up at 4 am looking for cereal. We are still on a different time zone, walking about like zombies but clearly happy and fortunate that we made this trip.
