A Sweet Gesture

D says ‘I love you’ quite frequently. It is a common phrase in his vocabulary. Almost as common as ‘I want milk’ or ‘I want to play’. Hence it made me wonder if he attached any meaning to it, if he feigned it until this morning….

I am sorry Mama. He said, wrapping his skinny arms around me.
I was taken aback. It was early in the morning. I had just woken up and was in a complete stupor.
Heh, sorry for what? Couldn't think of anything. My brain, foggy as expected.
For being a bad boy last night, Mama. I didn’t listen to you.

He threw one of his tantrums the previous evening. A ‘mini’ tantrum that we are kind of getting used to. In fact, they have become so common that sometimes we don’t even react to them.

Oh yeah, I remember now, I said.
I am sorry Mama.
It’s OK, baby. Just remember, you need to be a good boy, all right?
OK, Mama.
I love you, Mama.
I love you too.
No mama, I really love you very much. I love you bahoot (lots)

And with that he gave me the coziest hug, tilted my face with his tiny hand and kissed me.
