The First Step

I bought a guitar yesterday. It is an acoustic that comes with a tuner, pick, strap and a gig bag. Yes, a gig bag-love the sound of it. I really want to learn this instrument. The first session is on Friday evening and I can’t tell you how excited I am.

Hubby dear was kind enough to tune the guitar for me and in between handling the kids and fixing dinner, I sat for a few minutes to see what it feels like to hold my own guitar. It felt so cool!
Tried strumming a couple of chords and they instantly brought back memories of why I didn’t pursue it when I was younger. See, when you play an acoustic or a rhythm guitar, you really have to press on the strings to bring out the actual sounds of the chords unlike an electric where the amp basically does most of the work for you ( that's my understanding!). And when you do that, your fingers bruise and they feel sore, especially if you have soft fingers like I do. I remember I was in pain for a couple of days and it took me a while to pick up the guitar and play it again which I did but not for long due to the same very reasons. I just gave up.

So last night as I strummed my brand new guitar, I felt the same pain. I looked at my fingers and the tips were red and they already looked sore. But hey, this time, nothing is stopping me! I am all gung-ho about it! I am determined to learn this beautiful instrument. It took me a while to get to this point and I am not looking back.

Lovely. Tani my younger one is learning the acoustic guitar and I sit along sometimes . Love strumming it - might start learning too - after reading your post .

Oh, all the best! I'd love to be able to play the guitar ... but it's always just stayed at that...haven't done anything about it!
