I am looking forward to this summer. More so, with my parents impending trip to the US. Yes, they will be here in July, just a couple of weeks away. This is their third visit since I moved here and I just cannot contain my excitement about seeing and having them over. Both in their old age, are a bit skeptical about how they will endure the long journey. But thanks to my brother, he is flying them business class all the way, which I am sure will make a huge difference and will make the trip a bit more bearable.
My father was a pro footballer in his hey days. He was a prolific player and made his home state proud with his victories and laurels. He is still quite well known for his achievements, contributions and commitment to the sport, and in general to the community.
D is also into soccer now, just as many other kids of his age. He loves to kick the ball and does a pretty good job with it. And he too is very excited about having ‘Bapi Koka’ over!
The last couple of days, the following is the conversation I have had with him, at least once a day:
Me: D, kun aahibo?
D: Bapi koka aru Deepali aita aahibo
Me: are you excited?
D: Yes, and when Bapi koka comes, I will play soccer with him. I will hit the ball like this (demonstrating his kick) and teach him to play ball with me.
Me: Teach him??
D: Hmm, teach him!
I can’t wait to see the both of them playing and bonding in our backyard. A is also meeting her other set of grandparents for the first time and it will be interesting to see how she responds to them.
Just the other day while talking to my father on the phone, he said, “I am so excited about visiting you. I cannot wait to get off the plane, hug you and hold you in my arms”. Aww, this brought tears to my eyes. Almost.
Me too, Bapi. I can already feel the warmth of your hug and if I had the choice, would bask in it forever!
Ti amo!
