Morning woes....

It is quite a challenge to get D ready for his day care every morning. He always knows how to stall the process. Either he is busy watching ‘Higglytown Heroes’ or he is playing with his bowl of cereal instead of finishing it. Or, sometimes, he simply refuses to follow our directions.

Quite frustrating.

So every morning, hubby and I have to think of creative ways to get him ready so that we can leave the house on time (which is something we are still working on). We ‘bribe’ him with a lolly pop (I know, I know, lolly pop? First thing in the morning?) or we distract him by asking him about the things and people he sees on the way to his ‘school’.

School buses, cows and security guards!

We both work in a guarded facility where every morning as we enter the premises, we have to stop and show our ID badges to the guards at the gate. D’s developed a fascination for them and makes it a point to yell a ‘hello’ or ‘hi’ to them from the back of the car when we stop. And most often, the guards happily respond to his greeting, sometimes with equal zeal and vigor!

So this morning, since he was in his usual behavior and making things difficult for me, I decided to ask him about the guards. By the way, he already got his share of ‘lollipop’ which obviously didn’t work! But as soon as I told him that he can wave to the guards if he gets into the car, he obliged. Interesting ha? As I am strapping him to the car seat, this is what he says to me.

“Mama, I like the guard.”
“I like him because (another one of his favorite words) he smiles at me.”
“I like him because he says hi.”
“I like him because he is a big man….. just like Santa.”
“And I am scared of Santa because he is a big man!!!”

Confused? Don’t worry, you are not the only one!
