We successfully followed through. This trip was promised to D a week ago and it was brought to fruition yesterday when we ended up at the carnival in Mount Airy.
The weather worked in our favor-it was much cooler and less humid than the previous days and being Thursday, the place wasn’t very crowded.
I don’t remember the last time I went to a fair. I must have been 7or 8 when my parents took me to one. Don’t have many memories of it except the giant ferrous wheel. Who forgets the ferrous wheel, right? It is the icing on the cake, the highlight, the jewel in the crown so to speak. The one thing D had to get on in order to make this trip worthwhile and memorable. This and of course, cotton candy. For the past few days, we incessantly talked about the much anticipated fair trip and every time the discussion ended with D reminding us ‘that he will have some cotton candy and then go on the ferrous wheel at the fair’.
We did that and much more. By the end of it, we got on the ferrous wheel, polished off a huge bag of cotton candy, binged on hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, fried chicken livers, fried Oreos (never thought fried cookies will be so delicious) and ice-cream. The kids were tired after trying out almost every ride suitable for their age. A cried the entire time she was on the giant wheel (I can dedicate an entire post to this- but later) but all in all, it was a great outing.
It was almost 10p when we got home – A fell asleep in the car but D was wide awake, thanks to all that sugar! I was worried that we were in for a long haul with an energized kid but D, content, his face showing the telltale signs of gratification, was ready for bed. And just as I tucked him in, he pulled me close to him, hugged me and said,
Mama, I want to go to the fair again. Tomorrow?
Not tomorrow sweetie. May be some other time OK?
OK. And Mama, I am so happy. I loved the cotton candy and the ferrous wheel. And, Mama...
Yes, baby?
I love you and I love Papa.
We surely made his day!
